Speed riveting technology from Bossard Austria

Speed Riveting: Place a large number of rivets quickly and easily

For decades they were known primarily from train stations, where travelers supplied themselves with snacks and drinks. Nowadays, vending machines are on almost every corner and offer almost everything that consumers might spontaneously need outside of business opening hours, from grilled food to flowers to hygiene products.

Ralph RammersdorferHowever, Ralph Rammersdorfer's interest is less focused on the various contents of vending machines; he is more concerned with the questions: What holds the housing together, which connecting elements ensure the necessary strength of the drawer, turntable and the other technical finesse?

Our Riveting product manager also knows the right answer to this: “We used to do a lot of screwdriving here, which was expensive and also technically very difficult due to the one-sided accessibility in many areas. The alternative was the blind rivet, which was safer (no rivet falling off), easier to set and therefore more economical.”

Short cycle times and low operating costs: the most economical way to set rivets

Back to the vending machine, which, according to Ralph Rammersdorfer, places low demands on tensile and shear forces compared to other applications. This is where the speed rivet comes into play, which can be processed very quickly in assembly lines using, for example, a battery-powered setting tool or a hydraulically and hydro-pneumatically operated variant.

Ralph Rammersdorfer: “It is the most economical way to set rivets. The advantages add up: Ergonomic handling, higher availability, shorter cycle times, low investment and operating costs - speed riveting technology is the ideal solution for numerous assembly applications in the areas of production, maintenance and repairs, not only for vending machines. Especially since no specialist staff is needed.”

And this is how it works, a typical setting sequence: After the rivet mandrel with the speed rivet at the ready has been inserted into the drill hole, when the riveting tool is triggered, the rivet mandrel pulls through the speed rivet, widens it in the drill hole - and thus offers high clamping force and a firm connection. After the setting process, the device automatically has the next speed rivet ready for the next assembly process. “The specialist refers to this process as closing head formation by expanding the sleeve using the pull-through process,” says Ralph Rammersdorfer.

From the Bossard Austria range, our riveting technology expert recommends the speed blind rivets from Avdel®. They can be used to connect metals, plastics, composite materials and passive electronic components quickly and reliably in medium and large series applications. Avdel® speed blind rivets are available in a wide range of materials, lengths, diameters and functions.

The Bossard range also includes a variety of time-tested and lightweight setting tools for processing speed blind rivets. The connecting elements and the processing devices together form an assembly system.
